Overturned truck blocks one lane of Route 8 in Town of Norwich
NORWICH – A tractor trailer en route to Agro Farma overturned on Route 8 this morning, just north of the hamlet of White Store.
According to Deputy Max Loiselle of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, the truck’s driver, 53-year old Rosa R. Troyer of Middlebury, Indiana, was heading north on the state roadway when the accident occurred just after 7 a.m.
“She just took the corner too fast,” explained Loiselle. The 18-wheeler drifted right off the road onto the soft shoulder, and when Troyer tried to correct, the vehicle and trailer overturned.
Troyer herself was unharmed. According to South New Berlin Fire Chief Kevin Christian, she was already out of the truck when he and other responders from the all-volunteer department arrived at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Christian said the truck was carrying 17 “totes” of processed fruit bound for the yogurt manufacturing facility, each weighing upwards of 2,250 pounds.
According to the South New Berlin chief, this is the fourth vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer headed either to or from Agro Farma in the last few months.
The overturned truck partially blocked the northbound lane, restricting traffic to one lane while crews awaited the arrival of a trailer from Agro Farma so the contents of the truck could be offloaded.
