DOT meeting addresses Rt. 8 bridges

NEW BERLIN – The plans for replacing two bridges along a state highway through the towns of Norwich and New Berlin will be revealed during a public information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Unadilla Valley Central School cafeteria, located at 4328 state Route 8.

The New York State Department of Transportation has determined that the bridges on state Route 8 over White Store Creek and Great Brook, both built 75 years ago, should be replaced. The bridges exhibit deterioration, a NYSDOT press release said, and officials will be inspecting them regularly to ensure that they remain safe until the work can begin, anticipated in 2013.

Under the proposed design, some private property acquisitions at each site may be needed; however, the extent and locations have not yet been determined.
