Woman accused of embezzling from Sherburne Big M

SHERBURNE – A 47-year old Sherburne woman stands accused of embezzling more than $97,000 from the grocery store where she worked.

Michelle R. Markham was arrested earlier this week by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and charged with second degree grand larceny, a class C felony in conjunction with the alleged crime.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Markham is believed to have siphoned approximately $97,400 from the cash register at the Sherburne Big M over a 17-month period between March 2010 and August 2011. She was a longtime employee of the independent grocery store, where she worked as a cashier.
