Norwich tennis team drops opening match
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Owego 4, Norwich 3
NORWICH – Owego gained a split of the four singles matches, and took two of three doubles matches to defeat the Purple Tornado netters on Friday.
Norwich seniors Bryn Loomis and Sophie Stewart locked down easy straight sets wins at first and second doubles. At first doubles, first-year players Jenny Borfitz and Breanna Cashman rallied from an opening-set loss to capture their first varsity win. Borfitz and Cashman outlasted Palia Lewis and Sam Slevetskas, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. “Jenny and Breanna came back from 4-1 down in the first set to make it close, and they just carried that momentum through the rest of the match,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “All three of our wins were solid. We just need to get the other girls comfortable in their spots.”
Norwich plays at Seton Catholic Central Tuesday.
