Two killed in Greene accident

GREENE – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a mother and daughter were killed in a head-on collision in Greene Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a car driven by Amanda Demuth, 29, Oxford, accompanied by her two children, 8-year-old Gavin and 6-year-old Amara, was headed north on Stillwater Road/County Rt. 32 in the Town of Greene when another car, driven by Herbert Corey, 70, Greene, traveling south, crossed into their lane and collided head-on.

Chenango County Medical Examiner Dr. John Cruz was called and declared both Amanda and Amara Demuth dead at the scene. Gavin Demuth was taken to Wilson Hospital in Binghamton for treatment of injuries. Corey was not injured in the accident. No details as to the cause of the crash have been released. Charges are pending.

Village and Town of Greene police, fire and EMS responded to the scene.
The Sheriff’s Department is not releasing the names of the deceased, pending notification of family. Further details will be available in Tuesday’s Evening Sun.
