YMCA offers showers to those without power

NORWICH – In an effort to support those affected locally by Hurricane Irene, the Norwich Family YMCA will open its facility so any person without power who wishes to utilize their showers and facilities may do so at no charge.
“With all of our neighbors and friends in the area directly affected by the recent aftermath of Hurricane Irene, many people are without power. Without power, many folks cannot take advantage of many things that we have taken for granted, i.e. refrigerator, television, telephone, running water, being able to flush a toilet and even take a shower,” said YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen.
“As a charitable organization the Norwich Family YMCA has benefited immensely from our community and their generosity, and we now have the opportunity to give back to those in need buy offering a hot shower and a place to relax during this traumatic time for some,” Mullen said.
