DVD Patrol

We’re just moving along, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol keeps on going and one thing that keeps us all going is the wind. Hurricane Irene won’t be something we’ll forget for a long time and the Toddster sure won’t either. Now, we have to pick ourselves up and move just like that old wind does. The Patrol also has to do that too. Some DVDs with some of our favorite shows from the past season have come out and we thought we would tell you about them. There are even a couple of shows coming out we’ll tell you about later. Let’s see what there is !

New on DVD

Nikita - Sometimes something that starts out as a good thing might not be as good as you think. Nikita (Maggie Q) was found as a teenager by a Government Operation called “Division.” They changed her identity to make it appear she was really dead and trained her to be a killer. During her career, there were many things she did that made her realize this wasn’t such a good thing she was doing. Nikita then found a way to escape and she went into hiding. In the pilot episode, Nikita meets Alex (Lyndsey Fonseca) who has had the misfortune of having Division cross her path. She is recruited much the same way Nikita was. She’s now working with Nikita and they want to bring them down. Will they be able to do it? Season 1 is available in stores now with Season 2 starting on the CW Network Friday September 23 at 8 p.m.

The Vampire Dairies - When you’re growing up, things can seem a bit strange. Especially when your boyfriend happens to be a vampire. Elena (Nina Dobrev) met Stefan (Paul Wesley) and her world was great and she even came to accept he wasn’t exactly the guy you think he was. In the Season 2 opener, everyone is recovering from the festival in Mystic Falls. Stefan’s brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) escaped the Mayor’s clutches and exacted his own brand of revenge. Elena also found out that her double Katherine has come to her town for revenge on Damon and Stefan. Can the trio find a way to deal with her and recover from the events of the festival? Season 2 is in stores now along with Season 1. Season 3 begins on the CW Network Thursday September 15 starting at 8 p.m.

Also on DVD

NCIS - Season 8 starts up with a bang as the NCIS team is still picking up the pieces. We have Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) leading the charge of his team as they investigate crimes against the Navy and the military itself. At the end of Season 7, Abby (Pauly Perrette) has learned Gibb’s secret to when he killed the drug dealer responsible for killing his wife and daughter. The drug dealer’s daughter has also learned this and now wants Gibbs to do some work for her or she will reveal to everyone that he killed her Father. Gibbs has never backed down from a fight and is not about to start now. Will he find a way to stop her plan before it’s too late? Season 8 is available now along with Season 1-7. Also, Season 9 begins on CBS Tuesday September 20 at 8 p.m.

Blitz - There’s nothing like doing a job your own way. When you’re a cop, they can be even harder. Brant (Jason Statham) was the cop you really wanted to stay out of the way from. One thing he hated even more than someone getting in his business were people who killed cops. Nash (Paddy Considine) was your by the book cop. His latest case concerns a serial killer who is targeting cops. The only person that can help on the case is Brant and at first they don’t exactly hit it off. They do want to find the one who is taking down their brothers in blue. Are they going to be able to work on this case together? Statham team with Robert Deniro in “Killer Elite” coming to theaters soon.

New on Blu Ray

Top Gun - The movie that made Tom Cruise a star. Cruise plays Maverick, a pilot who likes to take too many risks in the air as well as on the ground. After an encounter with some Russian planes takes the Navy’s top pilot down, Maverick and his partner Goose (Anthony Edwards) are named the top pilots and the captain decides to see just how good they think they really are. They are sent to “Top Gun.” Top Gun is a game where other pilots join in simulated attacks on each other to see who is the best. Maverick may have also met his match in Charlie (Kelly McGillis). What he doesn’t know is that she is also working at Top Gun too and they may make things even more interesting. Will Maverick find a way to win her over and get the girl too? Cruise will be seen in December in “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol” coming out in December in theaters.

Before we go, a couple of shows coming up are “Unforgettable” about a female detective who has complete memory recall which can really help in her line of work. The other one on my list is “Person of Interest.” This one has an ex government agent recruited by the individual who created a computer that targeted persons of interest after the Sept. 11 attacks. This system is being abused by people and is being used for evil ends. Both shows start in September on Fridays on CBS and they look really interesting. Have a great week and see you next time. The Toddster is out!
