Greene survives tough test from Deposit
Field Hockey
Greene 2, Deposit 1
GREENE – Greene scored twice on penalty corners, the latter goal snapping a 1-1 tie to give the Trojans a closer-than-expected opening game win over Deposit Tuesday.
Emily Gascon found herself in the right position for each Greene coach. With 12 1/2 minutes left, Emily Conroe and Jahna Driscoll exchanged passes with Driscoll hammering a shot toward the goal. Gascon re-directed the shot for the game-winner. “That second goal was a nice set-up. It was a beautiful goal and well executed,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin.
Gascon scored in similar fashion, again after a Driscoll shot, to give Greene a one-goal halftime lead. Deposit had few scoring opportunities, but cashed in on one of its two shots with 21 minutes left in the second half.
“We played well and passed it well, (Deposit) just packed it in and were all over our sticks,” Carlin said. “We executed our corners well, but their goalie made some saves. This was a good test, and it wasn’t easy.”
Greene plays at Windsor Thursday.
