S-E uses big second half to beat Mount Markham

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville broke away from a tie game with a superlative second half in Monday’s league win over Mount Markham.
Carter Cole scored the go-ahead goal for the Marauders (3-1-1), and Mike Harlost tacked on an insurance goal with less than 10 minutes to play. “They scored early on us, and it was a wake-up call,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. “We were able to respond fairly quickly and tie it. The second half was much more dominating for us. We began to win more of the 50-50 balls, and the defense tightened up.”
S-E tied the game when Cole set up Trevor Bays’ goal 10 minutes after the Mount Markham goal.

GREENE – In a non-league game Monday afternoon, Greene’s first-half goal from Alex Driscoll held up in a shutout of the Blue Devils.
Driscoll scored his ninth goal of the season with 3:40 left in the first half with the assist coming from Karl Zaengle. Nate Westover finished with four saves for Greene (3-0).

WALTON – Walton recovered from one-goal first-half deficit to Afton getting three goals from Ben Conklin in Monday’s home victory.
Jorge Salinas scored for the Crimson Knights in the first half giving the club its first-ever lead at the break. Salinas also scored in the second half. Afton hosts Bainbridge-Guilford today.

SOUTH OTSELIC – Brookfield scored the winning goal in the second overtime period as Jordan Price headed in Zach Noble’s pass in Monday’s game against Otselic Valley.
Noble put the Beavers on top at the 27:25 mark of the second half. OV was able to force overtime thanks to a Brent Rasmussen goal at 13:25.

SHERBURNE – Morrisville-Eaton broke a 1-1 tie at the 18-minute mark of the second half in Monday’s win over the Marauders.
Haley Brown’s second goal of the game unlocked the tie game. S-E came out strong in the second half applying early pressure. Desiree Brown picked up a shot off the goalie’s pad, and knotted the game for S-E just two minutes into the period. “We were pushing them back on their heels for a while,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “We’re hoping to beat them the second time we meet them.”
S-E hosts Clinton Wednesday.

ONEONTA – Norwich ran its record to 5-1 on the season defeating Oneonta by two strokes Monday on the upper nine at Oneonta Country Club.
Eric Walling’s 41 led Norwich, Corey Johnson shot 44, while Ryan Hagen and Casey Marson added 45s. Norwich hosts Chenango Valley today.

Girls’ Soccer

S-E girls second at Hamilton tournament
HAMILTON – Sherburne-Earlville’s girls dropped a 6-4 final to Poland in double overtime in the finals of the Hamilton Optimist Club Tournament last Saturday.
Briana Vibbard had three goals in the championship game loss, and Emma Karaman added the other tally.
Friday, S-E prevailed in penalty kicks over Hamilton. After each club battled to a 2-2 tie through overtime, S-E outscored the Knights in penalty kicks, 8-7, with Sarah Cole delivering the winning goal.
In regulation, Vibbard and Karaman tallied for S-E.
Earning all-tournament honors were Gizem Kozak (Defensive MVP); Jordan Van Althuis (Most Sportsmanlike), and Vibbard along with Brandi Harmon, All-Tournament Team.
