Greene 25, Unatego 19 (OT)
OTEGO – Facing its stiffest test to date, Greene passed with flying colors Saturday night beating Unatego in overtime.
Getting the ball first to start the extra period, Greene powered toward the goal line with running back Keegan Cerwinski. On the fifth play of the short drive, Cerwinski fumbled near the goal line, but the loose ball was recovered by teammate Dan Haskell for the go-ahead touchdown.
Unatego, who had scored twice in the fourth quarter to force OT, was stopped in its tracks on four plays. During that final sequence of plays, Greene had a sack, and an interception by Dan Treadwell ended the Class C Division V clash. “Unatego definitely had a lot of confidence coming into the game, and we’re going to get everybody’s best shot,” said Greene coach Tim Paske. “Unatego was a lot quicker than we anticipated and much more physical than we thought they would be. Our kids stepped up in a tight game when the ball wasn’t always bouncing our way. Good teams find ways to win games like this, and it was a character-builder for us.”
Greene erased a 6-0 first-quarter deficit with a pair of second-quarter touchdowns. Cerwinski completed long drives with scoring runs of three and 10 yards. The lead grew to 19-6 in the third on Jeff Carlin’s 11-yard TD scamper.
Unatego put together two long drives to tie the game. Quarterback Tyler Butler scored on a pair of one-yard runs, the second with 3:21 remaining.
Greene finished with 270 yards rushing in the game as Carlin rushed for 96, Cerwinski had 82, and Mike Beckwith ran for 66.
Greene hosts Dryden Friday in a non-league game.

Oxford 14, Delhi 0
DELHI – Oxford made a defensive adjustment to apply more pressure on Delhi’s offense, and the new scheme worked almost to perfection in the Blackhawks’ shutout win on the Bulldogs’ home turf Saturday afternoon.
Already leading the game by a touchdown, Paul Wonka’s 93-yard TD run in the fourth quarter sealed the win. Wonka’s long scoring run was preceded by a big defensive stop by the Oxford defense on a fourth-and-goal.
“We played really well on the defensive side, and I give a lot of credit to Coach Miller and Coach Kaufman for talking us into something different,” said Oxford coach Ray Dayton. “Maybe Delhi wasn’t prepared for it. It was really simple for us to play, and it worked.”
Other than Wonka’s long TD run, yards were tough to come by for the Oxford offense, and it was the passing game that put the Blackhawks on the board in the first quarter. On a third-and-long, Jody Smith connected with Andrew Golden on a 16-yard first-down pass to extend the scoring drive. Once in the red zone, Smith found a wide-open Joe Jackson in the flat for a 13-yard touchdown.
The Oxford defense, meanwhile, stopped Delhi twice inside the red zone to preserve the shutout, and held Delhi’s vaunted running game to less than three yards per carry.
Wonka led the Oxford rushers with 168 yards on 22 totes. “We’re really excited for this win, but it doesn’t get any easier for us,” Dayton said, whose club matches up with Walton next weekend. “We have a great opportunity to play the best team in the state, and it’s an opportunity for us to see where we stand.”

S-E 12, Mount Markham 6
WEST WINFIELD – Sherburne-Earlville is 2-0 in division play for the first time since rejoining Section III a decade ago winning Saturday night at Mount Markham.
S-E drove for the winning touchdown midway through the fourth quarter when Austin Jasper plunged over the goal line from one yard out. “We knew this game was a key one for both teams, and the change to Saturday night deal was a little screwy,” said S-E head coach, Mike Jasper. “We played tough and we hung tough under adversity. We didn’t make as many mistakes as we did in the previous two games, and that was nice to see.”
The Marauders were bottled up much of the first half as Mount Markham’s aggressive defense contained the outside run, while the blitzing linebackers had the better of the “all or nothing” scenarios. Austin Jasper and Cory Musician found running room on the inside to set up S-E’s first score as Randy Briggs threw a 15-yard TD strike to Cole Hodges.
Mount Markham responded on the next possession with a 20-yard TD pass of its own. Twice, S-E drove inside the Mount Markham 25 in the second half, the first one ending with an interception at the goal line, and the second stalled on downs at the Mustangs’ 22. On the third long drive of the half, the Marauders finally capitalized.
“Mount Markham is one of the better teams in our league, and we know if we want to go to the playoffs, we have to beat these types of teams,” Jasper said. “Now we’re in the heart of division play, and we don’t have to worry about scenarios to get into the playoffs. We just need to play each game and win.”
Musician had a team-high 62 yards rushing for S-E, who outgained the Mustangs 209-145 in the total yardage battle.

Unadilla Valley-Edmeston 23, Windsor 6
WINDSOR – UV-Edmeston limited its own mistakes, and forced seven Windsor turnovers to win its first game of the season Saturday.
Windsor had eight fumbles in the game, five of which were recovered by the Storm. UV-E head coach, Brian Banks, noticed how Windsor’s ballcarriers held the ball, and he instructed his players to take advantage of that. “Just the way their guys were holding the ball, I told my guys to just put a hat on the ball, and the ball would come loose,” Banks said. “The ball kept squirting out, and we got the recoveries.”
UV-E had the only score of the first half when Brandon Miles found Justin Hofer on a 27-yard TD toss. The rest of the game’s points came in the final 12 minutes.
Miles scored on a one-yard TD sneak, only to see Windsor’s quarterback, Elliott Campbell, answer that score with a one-yard sneak of his own.
Following a long Miles punt on the next sequence, Windsor’s returner muffed the reception, and the ball bounced back into his endzone. Hofer stuck the returner in the endzone for the two-point safety. The Storm put a stamp on the victory scoring on its final possession, a36-yard TD scamper by Hofer.
Hofer finished with 100 yards rushing on the dot on just eight carries, and the UV-E defense, despite missing two starting linebackers, held Windsor to just over three yards per carry for the game. “We deserved this win,” Banks said. “We kept killing ourselves in the first two games, and it was about time we stopped making mistakes. We played well today.”
UV-E hosts Unatego on Saturday.
