Chenango Relay For Life already prepping for 2012
NORWICH – Just months after surpassing its 2011 goal of $155,000, the Chenango Relay For Life team is looking ahead to 2012 and another successful year of fundraising. On Monday, the event’s organizational committee will meet for the first time, at 5:30 p.m. in the community room at Morrisville State College’s Norwich Campus, 20 Conkey Ave.
As always, said event chair Marie DeSarro, the group is looking to add new members to its ranks, all in an effort to continue improving the Chenango Relay For Life.
“The areas where we need the most help include registration, team recruitment and retention, and event sponsorship, but we can always use extra help and fresh ideas in all areas of Relay,” added DeSarro. “At our first committee meeting, we will also be discussing new ideas for our 2012 event and its theme. Every year we try to pick something that will allow our teams to really use their imagination while decorating their campsites.”
Last year’s Relay For Life was an unparalleled success, according to DeSarro, raising more than $155,000. Each year, she added, the event seems to get bigger and better.
“We reached our goal in 2011 and I’m very confident that, once our 2012 goal is announced, our community will once again go above and beyond expectations,” she added. “We’re definitely looking forward to another year of fun and fundraising, all so we can help create a better, cancer-free world.”
The Chenango Relay For Life website – www.relayforlife.org/chenangocountyny – is up-and-running, reported DeSarro, and teams and individuals are encouraged to register and begin fundraising as soon as possible. Anyone interested in starting a new team should contact DeSarro at relay.chenango@gmail.com or Denise Woods at the American Cancer Society at 766-6911 or 1-800-227-2345.
