6OTS to host art show and reception for Laura Wolanin
OXFORD – 6 On The Square (6OTS) announced that it will be showcasing the works of Binghamton artist, Laura Wolanin. Wolanin’s paintings and sculpture will be on exhibit from Sept. 23 through Nov. 6, with a formal Opening Reception to meet the artist on Friday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m.
In May of this year, Laura graduated from Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute, a branch of Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn. She currently is working in two studios, with Dorene Quinn in Syracuse and also Alana Matesanz at “221 State Street Studio” in Binghamton. Her main focus is on both painting (murals and portraits, on canvas and furniture) and sculpture (welding, woodcraft and found objects). In addition to her work painting and sculpting, Laura is the lead singer for the ambient/pop/punk band “Vice & Virtue”, based in Binghamton.
Laura stated, “I am an artist everywhere I go and there is art in everything around me. I believe that it is my job as an artist to help others see the beauty all around them, that they would otherwise never notice.” Laura added, “I am an artist of all sorts and have been ever since I can remember. I am now twenty-two years old and my passion for the arts is increasing daily. I have been extremely interested in art since I was old enough to pick up a crayon, but my very first painting was created in the tenth grade in high school. I had never really tried painting before that, and I quickly realized how naturally I took to it.”
Laura is available for commission work. Wolanin said, “I very much enjoy doing murals and things of large scale like store fronts, garages and fences. I am also very willing to explore and try other things like portraits and pets!”
Please join us at 6 On The Square Sept. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m., for the Opening Reception where you can meet this exciting new artist. All are welcome to this celebration. Light refreshments will be served, and Laura will be available to answer any questions about her work.
The Wolanin exhibit can also be viewed at 6OTS one-hour before and during performances. For inquiries contact Kim Begeal, 6 On The Square’s gallery coordinator. Phone: 843-OTS6 (6876). 6 On The Square, Inc., is located at 6 LaFayette Park in the heart of downtown Oxford. Visit 6OTS on the web - www.6onthesquare.org.
