OXFORD – Greene’s relentless offensive pressure paid off in the final 10 minutes as 6-foot-4 senior Sam Adams converted on a cornerkick to give the Trojans a one-goal win over the host Blackhawks.
Each team traded goals throughout the contest. Cameron Heggie scored early for Oxford before Greene’s Corey Dietrich tied the game, and Dietrich’s mate, Alex Driscoll, put his team in front at halftime.
Heggie’s second goal knotted the game, but Driscoll fired back for the victorious Trojans. At the 19-minute mark of the second half, Oxford tied the game a final time when Justin Schray scored off a pass from freshman Traynor Peterson. "Greene controlled the game almost exclusively in the second half,” said Oxford coach Jim Champlin. “It felt like we were a welterweight in a heavyweight prize fight, But our goalie Branden McConnell kept us in the game, and we scored on the few opportunities we created.”
Due to poor field conditions at the Emerson Soccer Complex, the consolation game was moved to Norwich’s home field, and defending champion G-MU eked out a one-goal win over the Tornado.
G-MU scored both of its goals less than one minute apart just 13 minutes into the second half to give the Raiders the lead. DeMario Reed made it a 1-1 game, and Greg Delaney netted the go-ahead goal.
Norwich, looking for its second win, took an early 1-0 lead when Cameron Prime converted a penalty kick.
Greene advanced to the finals defeating Norwich 6-2. Driscoll had a hat trick, and eighth-grader Luke Day tallied twice, the second a nifty header between several Norwich defenders. Oxford was a two-goal winner of G-MU in Friday’s first-round game.

OXFORD – Oxford’s girls captured their own tournament for the first time beating Norwich in the title game Saturday afternoon, 3-1.
Emily Smith had two goals for Oxford, and Julianne Heggie scored on a breakaway at 31:48 of the second half that snapped a 1-1 tie. “We did a better job of looking up when we were making our passes, and we are getting better touches on the ball,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle.
Oxford’s Smith, who had three goals in her team’s two wins, scored midway through the first half when Norwich was unable to clear a ball out of the penalty box area.
Norwich senior Kayla Hughes took advantage of an Oxford miscue, and directed her shot on a sharp angle from the right side to the inside left corner at 10:13.
Following Heggie’s go-ahead goal, Smith scored on a left-footed shot from the right side at 15:48 to give her team a two-goal cushion. Less than five minutes after Smith’s goal, Norwich’s Hughes hit the top of the crossbar on a close-range shot, and a follow-up shot was saved on the goal line by Oxford freshman goalie, Brionna Anzano.
Norwich and Oxford advanced to the finals with convincing victories. The Blackhawks’ Brenna Jones scored her first varsity goal giving her team a one-goal halftime lead. Smith and Heggie added second-half goals in a 3-1 victory over B-G “It was really sloppy, and both teams did well to cope with the conditions,” Cragle said.
