Local 'Hay for Texas' relief efforts continue

NORWICH – Even though September’s record-breaking storms and subsequent floods took out a great deal of Chenango County’s crops, local farmers are supporting the philanthropic ‘Hay for Texas’ effort.

According to coordinator Herm Sherwood-Sitts, seven truck loads of round bails have been hauled from Chenango County to distribution points in Texas. Three truck loads were delivered prior to the storms, and after a short hiatus from Sept. 2 until last week, four more have left.

The Hay for Texas founder offered his appreciation to hay handlers Keith Partridge, Dave Jones and Phil Quick’s Construction crew with the first delivery from an Endicott farm. Subsequent truck loads hauled by Truckers of Total Quality Logistics originated from farms in Norwich and Sherburne. Sherwood-Sitts acknowledged the support from Chenango Farm Bureau President Bradd Vickers and the generosity of the region’s farmers, especially in light of the weather events here.
