County agrees to accept Broome landfill waste

NORWICH – Chenango County lawmakers adopted an amendment to county law that would permit storm debris from Broome County to be disposed at the Pharsalia Landfill.

The imported solid waste would carry a tipping fee that is comparable to what local industries that exceed a specified threshold normally pay, but less than the standard price per ton.

Broome County had requested permission to transport between 10-15,000 tons of storm debris over a period of three months to the landfill. Currently, local law prohibits the importing of solid waste.
