Greene gears up for FloodFest this weekend
GREENE – Floodfest Greene, a benefit for those who lost property during the floods caused by Tropical Storm Lee, will take place from 8-8 on Sunday at the Genegantslet Golf Course.
The event will be free, however there will be numerous raffles and food for sale, the proceeds of which will be channeled back into the community for aid. Anyone attending is also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, children’s clothes and toys, and Christmas decorations.
Food at the event will include Oktoberfest style brats, Doug’s Fish Fry and breakfast at the Village Cafe. Eight bands will provide entertainment throughout the day and include local favorites such as Endless Mountain Trio, Distant Thunder, A Country Mile and No Quarter.
There will also be a motorcycle ride, “Runnin’ From the Mud,” at 10 a.m. with sign ups beginning at 8. The cost will be $10 per rider.
Coordinator Wess Van Voorhis explained that the entire event has been a three-week process put on entirely by members of the community.
“Everyone has been fantastic about putting this event together,” said Voorhis, explaining how he came up with the idea while driving to work last week. “I had the idea in the morning ... seeing all of the debris on the side of the road ... and by literally 7 o’clock that night we were having a committee meeting.”
Voorhis said donations for the event are still welcome and anyone who would like to purchase a sponsorship package can do so by calling 725-1446. Anyone who cannot attend the event can donate by visiting the Floodfest Facebook page (facebook.com/FloodfestGreene) and clicking on the Floodfest Greene Donate Here button.
