Village board hears ambulance district proposal

NEW BERLIN – In the continuing debate over the formation of an ambulance tax district, the Village of New Berlin board discusssed options at Tuesday’s monthly meeting.

Both Town of New Berlin Supervisor Ross Iannello and Bruce Vermeulen, councilman from Columbus, attended the village meeting to explain the process to both the village board and the attending public.

Iannello said the issue was about forming an ambulance tax district which would be a municipal agreement between New Berlin and Columbus. This would allow board members and the community to see exactly how much was being paid each year, he said.

Furthermore, a not-for-profit company would be created to take over operation of the ambulance service currently being run by the village of New Berlin, he said.
