Three accused in drug bust headed for county court
NORWICH – Three accused narcotics dealers charged with multiple felonies in a Norwich City Police sting operation last weekend will be heading to county court after waiving their right to a felony hearing yesterday.
Tonya Renee Jenkins, 42, of 41-45 North Broad St., and Timothy R. Armstrong, 20, of 27 Squires Ave., Endicott, were charged with fourth degree conspiracy, a class E felony, two counts of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony, and a pair of class A misdemeanors, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.
Darian E. Lewis, 25, of 144 North Terrance Ave., Mount Vernon, was charged with two counts of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony, endangering the welfare of a child and seventh degree criminal of a controlled substance.
Following the bust, three other individuals, including one minor, were charged with a number of misdemeanors, issued appearance tickets and released.
Norwich City Court Judge James E. Downey set bail at $30,000 for both Lewis and Jackson, and $25,000 for Armstrong. According to defense attorney Scott Clippinger, this is Armstrong’s first felony offense, and he requested a lower bail so his client could return home to the Binghamton area, where he’s employed.
Assistant District Attorney Stephen Dunshee argued against any lowering of the bail and stated all three were allegedly “involved in the sale and distribution of narcotics” within the city, that Armstrong was “an integral part of this” and requested bail remain at $30,000.
Police arrested Jenkins, Armstrong and Lewis following a joint investigation with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office into the manufacture, packaging, sale and possession of illegal narcotics. Police confiscated quantities of ‘crack’ cocaine, heroin, prescription drugs and other property, according to Police Chief Joseph Angelino.
