Loomis, Stewart win third straight Class B title

CHENANGO BRIDGE – The delays due to weather and the change of venue for the finals only delayed the inevitable. After starting the week with a pair of wins in the Class B doubles tournament at Recreation Park in Binghamton, the final two matches were stretched over four days for Norwich seniors Bryn Loomis and Sophie Stewart.

Moving to Chenango Valley High School for the finals Friday afternoon, Loomis and Stewart made quick work of Maine-Endwell’s Cara Boothroyd and Maria Orband taking the Class B title, 6-2, 6-0. It was the third straight sectional title for the Tornado tandem, and Norwich moves on to the Section IV State Qualifier this Friday at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

“They played about as well as the (outside) conditions would let us,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “It was windy and cold, and the other girls played a lot more nervous than us. In tennis, matchups are everything, and we were able to make it through without much trouble.”
