GREENE – Greene moved one victory from a perfect regular season beating Oxford in four games Monday, 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23.
The win advances the Trojans (13-0) to the Midstate Athletic Conference finals Thursday at 6:15 p.m. when it faces either Bainbridge-Guilford or Harpursville.
Marissa Pierce had 31 kills, most of those put-aways quick one-timers at the net. “It wasn’t easy, it’s never easy (against Oxford),” said Greene coach Shelbe Furman. “Oxford has some really good hustling players, and they seem to dig out most anything. It was just a matter of us gaining some momentum and to keep hammering away to wear them down.”
Cathryn Mercurio, Olivia Roach, and Kera Shepler paced the Oxford defense with each accumulating nine digs. Oxford’s record dropped to 8-4 this season, two of those losses coming to the Trojans.
Rebecca Hanrahan added 21 digs and 12 kills for Greene.
