Skaneateles 5, Sherburne-Earlville 0
SHERBURNE – Against defending Class B state champion Skaneateles Wednesday, Sherburne-Earlville (8-7-2) was eliminated from Section III postseason play.
Tyler Strods and Alex Brownlee had two goals apiece for Skaneateles, who led 4-0 at the halftime break. “They play all of their non-league games against double AA schools, and they lost all of those games,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez in explaining why his team had the home-field advantage. “They did well in their league this year, and they were certainly tested against some really good teams.”
The Marauders continued to pressure the goal in the second half, and narrowly missed on two scoring opportunities. “I was happy with how our guys continued to play hard,” Rodriguez said. “They didn’t back down and didn’t hang their heads. We made it a point to try and score in the second half. We only had a few chances, but the ones we had were good chances.”
The Marauders finished among the top three in league play to reach a preseason goal, and Rodriguez anticipates that his club could challenge for a division title next year. “I think that we can make a push for first place,” he said. “We’ll have to see what Clinton has back.”
