New Berlin marks its first Harvest fest this weekend

NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin will hold its first Harvestfest celebration from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. this Saturday on the front lawn of Milford Academy in downtown New Berlin.
According to New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter, the hope is that community members will participate in both Harvestfest and Norwich’s Pumpkin Festival and that there will be cooperation between the two events.
“We want to be a good community neighbor,” said Potter. “We’re encouraging families to join us in bringing our pumpkins to Pumpkinfest.”
There will be pumpkin carving stations at Harvestfest where families can participate and make their own pumpkins. They will then have the option of taking the pumpkins home or bringing them to Norwich.
There will also be participation from two local 4-H chapters, said Potter. There will be a petting zoo and a number of inflatables for children to enjoy, weather permitting.
In keeping with the spirit of the fast approaching Halloween, there will also be a pet costume contest put on by the 4-H clubs. Anyone willing to show of their pet’s fancy dress is invited to participate.
“We’re trying to come together with community organizations and put on quality community events that families can enjoy,” said Potter.
