Greene Drift Riders get ready to kick off season
GREENE – The Greene Drift Riders snowmobiling club will hold its second annual season kick off dinner starting at 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Silo Restaurant.
The event is held to raise money to maintain the club’s 30 miles of trails, to increase membership and to provide information to the community about safe snowmobiling.
“We put a lot of money and time into putting signs up and cleaning up the trails, removing stumps, etc.,” said Club President Brian Davis.
Membership in the club covers the entire family and a portion of the cost goes toward the New York State Snowmobile Association.
“It means that our members have a good standing with them,” he said.
During the fundraiser there will be numerous gift basket raffles, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Big Wally from Binghamton’s WAAL 99.1 will also visit the event.
Davis said he hopes to raise $1,500-2,000 at the event, but acknowleged that economic hardships and September’s severe flooding would most likely make this goal difficult.
Besides the weekly trail work done by the club, Davis explained that they would also be presenting a snowmobile safety class sometime during December to raise awareness and keep individuals and families safe.
“A lot of clubs do them ... we want to do our part,” he said
Davis went on to say that the event was very successful last year and he hopes to continue the fundraiser as an annual event.
