NHS Field Band to give warm-up performance prior to championship
NORWICH – The Norwich High School Field Band will give its annual warm-up performance at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Norwich Family YMCA, 68-70 North Broad St. On Sunday, the group will travel to the Syracuse Carrier Dome for this year’s New York State Field Band Conference Championship competition. The band – scheduled to perform at 10:15 a.m. – will face-off against Small School II rivals Malverne, Jordan Elbridge, Phoenix, Roslyn, Corning East and Johnson City.
This year’s field band show, “Seize the Day,” is based on the 1992 Disney musical, “Newsies,” and has been both challenging and rewarding for staff and students alike, said first-year director Jamie Carrier.
“I’m really thankful for the opportunity to direct them and I’m proud of the work they’ve done,” she added. “We’re all looking forward to next year already.”
