Otsego County driver facing felony charges in fatal hit-and-run
COLUMBUS – An Otsego County man is being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail following a Thursday night accident which resulted in the death of a 50-year-old woman.
Daniel B. Preston, 27, of 597 Armstrong Road, Plainfield, was taken into custody by Chenango County Sheriff’s deputies at his home and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, a felony, and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor. His Dodge pick-up truck – secured by Chenango County Sheriff’s deputies as evidence – was located at a friend’s house on Bert White Road in the Town of Edmeston.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m. on County Route 25 in the Town of Columbus, when an eastbound pick-up truck driven by Preston allegedly struck and killed Linda J. Jakubowski-Decker, of Fork Road, West Winfield, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Jakubowski-Decker was transported to Bassett Hospital with severe head trauma and pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and the New Berlin Police, Ambulance and Volunteer Fire departments.
Preston was arraigned in the Town of Columbus Court prior to his incarceration and additional charges are pending further investigation, said Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting, Jr.
