City’s winter parking ban begins today

NORWICH – According to the Norwich City Police Department, now is the time to find a winter parking space, as today marks the beginning of the city’s winter parking ban.
The ban – which requires all vehicles to be off public streets daily between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. – makes it possible for Department of Public Works crews to remove snow from streets and plow at a time when there is little traffic.
The ban will remain in effect through April 15, 2012, reported Police Chief Joseph Angelino. In addition, the parking ban may be implemented at any hour of the day during a declared snow emergency to facilitate the removal of snow, curb-to-curb.
Angelino added that – unless there is a significant snowfall that requires plowing – officers will be issuing courtesy notices as a reminder for the first week of the parking ban.
In addition, vehicular and traffic law states that “no vehicle shall be equipped with metal studded tires on a public highway” during the period from the first day of May 2012 through October 15, 2012. For more information contact the Norwich PD at 334-1212.
