Deadline for FEMA disaster assistance registration extended

ALBANY – Individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee now have until Dec. 15 to register for federal aid.
FEMA officials state that disaster assistance can include “grants to help pay for temporary housing needs, essential home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses.” However, individuals must provide proof that the repairs are not covered by insurance or other sources.
According to U.S. Representative Richard Hanna, R-NY, FEMA extended the deadline at the request of New York state.
“I urge anyone who was affected by either storm to call FEMA today if they need assistance,” Hanna said. “This deadline is now extended and people shouldn’t wait any longer if they need to register.”
For more information or to register, contact the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362 or visit DisasterAssistance.gov. Individuals with hearing disabilities can contact the TTY number at 1-800-462-7585.
