Two seek Greene clerk position
GREENE – Voters in Greene will have two options for town clerk next Tuesday: Republican incumbent Deborah L. Thomas on the “Square Deal” platform and Republican Colette C. Sands on the “Have A Voice” platform.
Thomas has served as town clerk for 13 years and as deputy town clerk for two years prior. If elected for another four-year term, Thomas said she will continue to focus on being a public servant and assist members of the community.
“I believe this is the people’s office and everything belongs to the public,” said Thomas. “Except for vital records, the public has access to all our information.”
Thomas expressed the importance of maintaining a well “organized and professional office” year round, and especially during tax season, for the sake of the financial integrity of the community.
Sands has served as deputy town clerk for nine years before resigning last March. At the urging of members of the community, she decided to run for election this year.
Although the position of deputy town clerk was her first municipal position, Sands has also worked for numerous businesses such as Security Mutual Life Insurance in Binghamton and CDI.
Sands attended Broome Community College and was graduated from Ridley-Lowell School of Business.
If elected, Sands said she would focus on maintaining more consistent and better hours in the clerk’s office and making people feel more welcome.
“I plan on doing some good for our town,” she said.
The general election will be held on from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on St. Hwy. 206 in Greene.
