Habitat dinner, auction and live music Saturday
OXFORD – Chenango County Habitat for Humanity (CCHH) invites the community to a special fundraising dinner on Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish Hall, at 32 Main St., in Oxford. The dinner, unique décor, live music and all the donated Chinese auction items have been carefully planned to make this family friendly event successful and really enjoyable. Habitat is enticing everyone to come to dinner … hard hats optional!
The dinner entrée of baked ham with raisin sauce glaze will appeal to all ages. There will be a sweet potato “Casa”-role (pun intended), fresh broccoli salad, apple sauce, dinner roll, beverage, and a dessert of Brownie à la mode. Price is only $7 for adults; children, aged 6 to 12, are $5; and under age 5 are Free!
This home-cooked dinner, presented by servers in tool aprons ‘de rigueur’, is sure to fill everyone to the rafters! In keeping with the carpentry theme, kids (and adults) are welcome to come wearing Bob the Builder outfits, coveralls, hard hats or any comfortable building gear they enjoy wearing.
While waiting for your dinner to arrive, you’ll have time to read the custom designed activity placemat created by Woollybear Web in Oxford and printed by Hayes Office Products in Norwich. The placemat, featuring a Habitat building beaver named C.C., has a quiz, picture search, jokes, things to color, and can even be folded into a play house.
Rebecca O’Connor, the CCHH Fundraising Committee Chair will have St. Paul’s Parish Hall tables decorated with a fall-construction décor theme. In a unique combination, pumpkin center pieces will have carved-out house designs and paper construction worker’s tools will abound.
Within the parish walls will be the sounds of music, performed live for your dining enjoyment. Concerts are scheduled with these performers: 4:30 p.m. - Don and Annie Simpson, instrumentalists; next – the Oxford Academy Men’s and Women’s ensemble will perform. In addition, Nick Wakefield and Caden Izard will be singing and playing guitars; and at 6 p.m. recording artist, Brian Murphy. Brian will have his CDs for sale with all proceeds benefiting CCHH.
During the dinner, Habitat will have a Chinese Auction for more than a dozen different donated items that range from great gift certificates to wonderful gift baskets. This might be a good way to start getting your holiday gifts. These items were generously donated by: First Edition Book Store, Wal-Mart, Linda Clark, Alice Herman, and Sandra Colton of Norwich; The Cheese Trap in Greene; and Oxford merchants: Hoppie’s, Oxford Motors LLC, Oxford Grooming, Blueox Corp, Gallery 3-2-1, Ye Olde Shanty Spirits, Kim Betts, Bartle’s Pharmacy, The Blue Lamp, and CCHH.
The dinner, sponsored by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, will have take-outs available and all proceeds will benefit Chenango County Habitat for Humanity. For more dinner information call 843-7045.
