'First Shot' clinic this Saturday
NORWICH – The Norwich YMCA will host the second “First Shot” basketball clinic this Saturday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Norwich Girls’ Basketball Boosters and Chobani Yogurt are offering the free clinic to all Norwich girls in grades one through eight.
Bill Loomis, Booster Club Chairman, said that Chobani has been instrumental in the sponsorship of the free clinic. In addition to providing healthy yogurt, fresh fruit, and bottled water for the girls, free tee-shirts will be given to all who attend the clinic.
Coordinated by Norwich girls varsity basketball coach, Josh Bennett, the clinic is intended to provide young girls with an opportunity to develop an interest in basketball by participating in a fun, structured event that teaches skill development, and promotes positive relationships between youth and young adults.
“Everyone loves this event,” Loomis said. “It’s wonderful to see the varsity and JV girls playing with and mentoring the young girls. We anticipate around 125 girls to participate and parents and children can register in schools, at the YMCA or can register at 9:30 a.m. at the YMCA on Nov. 12.
The boosters are also collecting recyclable cans and bottles at the door.
