NORWICH – What will Chenango County look like in 2030? What kinds of jobs will be available? Will downtown communities be active? How much open space will be left? What sort of transit system will move people around?

The answers to these questions and more could be revealed in a new comprehensive plan that’s in the works at the Chenango County Department of Planning and Development. County supervisors got a peek at a 200-page draft document last week.

“We envision the future of Chenango County having a vibrant economy, thriving downtowns, an abundant supply of housing for all generations, clean water and open spaces, an enhanced infrastructure and a suitable transit system,” wrote department director Donna M. Jones in the blueprint’s introduction. The plan will be prepared primarily in house.
