Accused burglar receives week-long furlough; to be sentenced next week

NORWICH – Accused felon Derek Nutter appeared in county court on Monday for sentencing in a pair of burglaries in July of 2010 in the towns of Bainbridge and Afton.

Instead, Nutter was granted a week-long furlough, despite protests from the county’s district attorney’s office, and will be sentenced on Nov. 28.

District Attorney Joseph McBride said he’d received several letters from the victims involved in one of the burglaries, who are “disappointed he’s not going to prison for a very long time ... no longer feel safe” and have “no sympathy for him.”
