Greene extends deadline for flood assistance

GREENE – The Floodfest Greene committee and the Greene Rotary Club, which raised over $17,000 to provide assistance to residents in the Greene school district who were affected by the September storms, have announced that financial assistance will be available through Nov. 30.
Residents seeking flood relief can fill out a financial aid for at the NBT Bank branch on South Chenango Street or at Focus Salon on Genesee Street.
According to committee chairman Wes Van Voorhies, the decision to extend the time was made “in an effort to try and reach as many people affected [as possible].”
Van Voorhies stated that efforts of the committee and everyone who participated in the event “helped lift the soul and the spirit of this water-logged community.”
Floodfest Greene, which took place in October, also received more than 2,000 pounds of non-perishable food items as well as a trailer load of new and gently used clothing and kids school items and Christmas items. The clothing is available at the Greene Clothing Bank on Genesee Street.
“You’d be surprised at how many people lost Christmas items when their basements flooded,” said Van Voorhies.
