Norwich man, youth charged with multiple felonies following robbery, assault

NORWICH – A Norwich man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with a Sunday afternoon robbery and assault, and will appear in City Court today for his arraignment.

Stephen M. Wright, 20, of 58 West Main St., was charged with a trio of felonies including first degree robbery, a class B felony; second degree assault, a class D felony; and third degree conspiracy, a class D felony, in addition to one count of fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor. A fifteen-year-old youth – also arrested in connection with the alleged crime – is also facing felony charges and will appear in Chenango Family Court at a later date.

According to a Norwich City Police press release, both Wright and the fifteen-year-old were with the alleged victim for a period of time prior to the crime. While in a secluded area of the railroad tracks between Mitchell and Rexford streets, the two are alleged to have forcibly stolen property from the victim. In the process, the victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at Chenango Memorial Hospital before being released.
