Town of German residence gutted by fire

GERMAN – A number of Chenango County fire departments responded to a structure fire at 270 Bentley-Gramch Road in the Town of German Saturday morning, working for more than three hours to control the blaze.

The one-family residence was completely destroyed by the fire, which was called in at approximately 10:45 a.m. Gusty winds, said Cincinnatus Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rich Roberts, in addition to a shortage of manpower at the start, both contributed to firefighter’s difficulties in dousing the blaze. No injuries were reported.

According to Roberts, those first on the scene were unable to determine what type of structure was in flames due to the wind and thickness of the smoke.
