DVD Patrol

We’re running again, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has gotten out the old running shoes because we have to stay ahead of the holiday crowd trying to get all the movies. The Toddster has managed to find a few here and there. There is even a teamup on the way but more on that later. Time to check our runtimes and see what movies we can see to power down from the workout.

New on DVD

Cowboys and Aliens - Being the new face in town is never an easy thing. In the old west, sometimes it could be shoot first and ask questions later. Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) had just rolled in and didn’t want any trouble until Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) came to find him. The only problem is Jake has been having memory  problems and doesn’t remember what he’s done and where he’s been. Jake may be getting answers sooner than he thinks when strange ships and creatures start flying in. The Colonel may have to put his grudge on hold because the only person that may be able to save everyone is Jake. Can he find the answers he’s looking for and stop the creatures that have come to take the townspeople away? Craig is pretty busy right now with a new film coming soon to theaters in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and he starts filming the new James Bond movie called “Skyfall” set for theaters next year.

The Hangover II - Just when you thought a party couldn’t get any crazier. Stu (Ed Helms) is getting married this time around and wants to keep things as low key as he can. His pals Phil (Bradley Cooper), Doug (Justin Bartha), and Alan (Zach Galinfinakis) come in and you would think they would’ve learned something from the last time they partied. You know the old expression “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” They didn’t learn anything because this time around they end up in Thailand. Stu and the guys have to figure out what’s happened and have to find his soon to be brother in law. Can they get back in time for the wedding or is the party really over?  Cooper has some great DVDs including “The A Team,” “Limitless,” and “He’s Just Not That Into You” in stores now.

Also on DVD

The Help - Changing what people think is never an easy task. Skeeter (Emma Stone) had just graduated from college and lived during the 1960s when times were different and people thought certain types of people had to fit in a certain place. Set during the Civil Rights movement, Skeeter wanted to do something to help out her friends. Her friends Abileen (Viola Davis) was going through a rough time. Skeeter decided to write a book from the perspective of people who worked as servants and maids. Abileen’s employers didn’t not like this idea, but Skeeter wasn’t about to give up her work or her opinion of her friends. Can she make everyone understand and even think a little bit? Stone will be seen in the new action movie “The Amazing Spider Man”coming to theaters in July 2012.

30 Minutes or Less - There is never enough time in the day. For Nick (Jesse Eisenberg), this couldn’t be more of an understatement. Nick just wanted to mind his own business working as a pizza delivery guy. His latest delivery surprises him a bit when he meets Dwayne (Danny Mcbride) and Travis (Nick Swardson). They think they have the best plan – to kidnap Nick and force him to rob a bank. Strapping a bomb to his chest seems to be a pretty good idea and now Nick has eight hours to pull the job off or he gets blown into kibbles and bits. Nick goes to his friend Chet (Aziz Asari) for help. Chet and Nick haven’t been speaking since Nick went out with his sister. They’ll have to work together to rob a bank. Can they do it before Nick is out of time? Eisenberg has come great movies including “Adventureland,”” Zombieland (with Emma Stone), and “The Social Network” (starring Justin Timberlake) available on DVD in stores.

Our day is done and we have to get cleaned up to go back to work. A great teamup is coming with the crew and the Toddster’s picks of 2011 aren’t far away. Movies have been really good this year and what will there be? Keep on coming back. The Toddster shall return next time.
