Sherburne-Earlville 48, Bainbridge-Guilford 44
Unadilla Valley 55, Hamilton 47
SHERBURNE - For the second time in three years, Sherburne-Earlville outlasted Bainbridge-Guilford for its tip-off tournament title.
S-E’s Jordan VanAlthuis had eight points in the middle two quarters as S-E (3-0) moved its lead to 37-30 after three periods. Cassie Beaver, named the tournament’s MVP, led the Marauders with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
B-G’s Shania Vandermark had nine points in the opening quarter and all six of her team’s points in the third. Outside of the first quarter, though, the Marauders did a good job of containing the Bobcats’ center. “She kind of got off to a hot start and we lost her on some screens,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “We went to a zone in the second quarter, and forced her to take more outside shots. We just tried to make her uncomfortable, we got out on Randi (Conway) on the outside, and controlled everyone else.”
Vandermark led her team with 22 points and had 51 points over the two-day tournament.
In the consolation game, Jordan Anderson made six free throws in the last quarter, and Taylor Davis added five points as Unadilla Valley picked up its first win of the season beating Hamilton. Anderson scored 13 points in the win, and Davis added 12.
S-E plays at Adirondack Friday.
In Friday’s opening-round game, the Marauders overcame an eight-point first-half deficit to defeat Hamilton by 10, 47-37. Beaver had 11 of her team’s 17 points in the second quarter, and finished with a game-high 21 points. “Before the game, we thought we could take advantage with Cassie down low, and we found her when we needed to,” Mulligan said. “Sierra (Morris) also came through with a lot of key baskets.”
Beaver also came through with 17 rebounds. Morris and Jordan VanAlthuis split 16 points down the middle.
B-G reached the finals with a torrent of points in the third quarter that flipped a tight game with UV into a comfortable victory.
UV led 20-18 at the half, and after scoring four points in the first 30 seconds of the second half to lead by six, gave way to a tremendous B-G surge. The Bobcats rattled off 20 straight points getting 10 from Vandermark. The Bobcats’ defense forced 10 UV turnovers in the quarter, and led 40-26 after three periods.
Vandermark racked up 29 points to go with 14 rebounds and five steals. Conway chimed in with 11 points and six assists.
The Storm were led by Taylor Davis, who scored 12 points.

Holland Patent 89, Otselic Valley 21
SOUTH OTSELIC – The Vikings fell two points short of their second win of the season in Thursday’s game with Morrisville-Eaton.
M-E did not have a single player score more than six points, but received multiple baskets from each player in the starting lineup. “It was a game we thought we could have won, and it’s been a long time since we beat them,” said OV coach Ron Graham. “It would have been nice to get the win.”
Hope Reynolds and Kayla Thorp shared scoring honors for the Vikes netting 13 points apiece.
Holland Patent’s Alyssa Curtis had 25 points including three three-pointers in a non-league rout of the Vikings Saturday. “They were just bigger, faster, and stronger than we were, and there was not much we could do about it,” Graham said. “They’re a good Class B team, and we’re a Class D team. There is a big difference.”

Greene Tournament
Susquehanna Valley 58, Greene 35
Owego 82, B-G 56
GREENE – Susquehanna Valley’s size and overall depth gave Greene fits en route to a Greene tournament championship win Saturday night.
In a display of consummate scoring balance, not one Sabers player scored in double figures, yet all but one player found the scoring column. Brendon Normile and Trenton Benton had eight points each to lead SV. “They are a very deep team with a lot of height, and all of their players can score,” said Greene coach Rick Smith, whose club was in a deep 30-7 hole at halftime. “We had some good, open looks in the first half, but the ball would not go down.”
Sam Adams scored 14 points to pace Greene.
The Bobcats fell victim to Owego’s run-and-gun attack in dropping the tournament’s consolation game. The Indians banged in 10 three-pointers with Zach Thomas burying five treys on his way to a game-high 23 points. “We knew what they were going to do,” said B-G coach Greg Warren. “We have four gears, but they have that fifth gear that we weren’t able to match.”
Austin Bauerle scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds to lead B-G. Bauerle was named to the all-tournament team. Ryan Porter chipped in with 15 points.
Friday, Greene advanced to the finals edging B-G, 64-63. Jeff Carlin scored the go-ahead basket for the Trojans, and B-G’s last-second shot attempt for the victory was denied by the Trojans’ Adams.
Adams had his best game as a varsity player finishing with a rare triple-double. In addition to his 14 points, Adams grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked 10 shots.
Brooks Harmon and Porter scored 17 points for B-G, and Bauerle was next tallying 14 points. Bauerle pulled down 12 rebounds, and Corbin Palmer dished out six assists.

Stockbridge Valley 46, Otselic Valley 45
MUNNSVILLE – Otselic Valley had two opportunities at the winning basket in the final minute, and failed on each possession in a one-point defeat to Stockbridge Valley Friday evening.
The Vikings’ first attempt at the lead ended in a turnover. After fouling SV, the Indians missed the front end of a one-and-one foul shot giving OV one more chance. Trevor Marston’s running jumper from the left wing was just off the mark as time expired. “It was a decent look at the end, we just didn’t convert,” said OV head coach Dave Loomis. “We had some opportunities. We fouled them, and they were missing free throws. It really wasn’t a good game on either team’s part.”
OV center Gideon Schena had his best game to date for OV finishing with 13 points and 18 rebounds. Marston added 11 points. The Vikings (2-1) host McGraw Tuesday.

S-E Tournament
ILION – At the Valley Duals this weekend, Sherburne-Earlville finished 4-1 to place second behind unbeaten Sandy Creek. The Marauders defeated Little Falls (66-6), Ilion (48-35), Hannibal (42-36), and Oneida (66-13). Sandy Creek handed S-E its lone defeat earning a 45-35 victory.
Kevin Dunshee (113), Spencer Franklin (120), Dustin Moseley (126), Garrett Duvall (195), and Cody Santiago (220, 285) all had perfect 5-0 records on the day.
Franklin had perhaps the biggest win of his long varsity career. Franklin executed a takedown on Ilion’s Laken Cook with less than 30 seconds left in the final period to record a 4-3 win. Cook is coming off back-to-back Section III titles, and placed fifth and fourth in the state the past two years. “He’s really worked hard in the offseason, and just like his older brother Tyi, he’s taken it (his wrestling) to another level this season,” said S-E assistant coach Brian Hicks of Franklin. “(Spencer) has wrestled higher ranked guys tough, but has had trouble beating them. Against Cook, he took it to him and wrestled great.”
Moseley had four pinfalls and one technical fall victory to earn Most Outstanding Wrestler honors. Santiago also had three pins among his five victories.
