Norwich announces 2012 Sports Hall of Fame class

NORWICH – The Norwich Sports Hall of Fame announces its 2012 class of inductees. The Hall of Fame committee, after receiving many worthy nominations, has selected the 1937 Football Team, John Stewart ('54), Barry Benjamin ('83), Kelly James Huhtala ('89), Tom Stoddard ('93), Charlie Wightman ('94),  and Joe Downey ('99).
"Norwich High School has had a long and storied athletic history and the committee feels we have a new class that represents the finest that we have to offer,” said Hall of Fame committee chair, Mark Abbott. “There were many hours of deliberations and discussions, and we sincerely appreciate the nomination forms that we received.
“We would like to encourage people to continue to fill out nomination forms and to include as much statistical data as possible. These forms can be found on the district's athletics website."
The second annual induction dinner will be held at the Canasawacta Country Club in May 2012. The final date has not been set.
