New Berlin celebrates the Spirit of Christmas this weekend
NEW BERLIN – The Spirit of Christmas celebration returns to New Berlin this weekend with craft vendors, snacks and a special visit by everyone’s favorite jolly old elf.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Village of New Berlin. In the morning, gifts and fruit baskets will be given to families in need that have pre-registered with the village offices.
“We’re trying to reach out to as many families in need as possible,” said New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter.
Craft vendors will be set up in the fire station with all proceeds going directly to the department. At 12:15, the Elves in Training of Little Foote’s Preschool will gather with the 4H Clovers Reindeer to sing four Christmas songs.
“It’ll be so nice for everyone,” said pre-school teacher Linda Foote.
Meanwhile, Santa will be gearing up his off-season hay-wagon and preparing his reindeer for a trip to the Masonic temple where more arts and crafts await.
Santa will remain at the Masonic temple until 3 p.m. where he will take requests from any good little boys and girls. Free pictures with Santa and snacks will also be available.
According to Potter, the collection of toys has been a group effort my members of the community, school district and area churches. He cited NBT, Chobani and New Berlin Begins as all donating items to the cause.
“It was a collective effort to pull this all together,” he said.
