EARLVILLE – William Excell was appointed Village of Earlville Mayor following an emergency meeting Wednesday night in which former Mayor Mark Doeberl stepped down from the position, citing personal problems.

Excell, a native of the village, will serve until a general election is held March 20 to fill Doeberl’s remaining year of his term. Excell said he would most probably run for the position.

“I had thought about running for mayor down the line. Under the circumstances, I feel it’s probably time to step up,” he said this morning.
