Norwich hosts longtime rival Oneonta tonight

NORWICH – At Norwich High School tonight, longtime rival Oneonta brings its boys to Jack Jones Gymnasium with the aim of handing the Tornado their third division loss of the season.

Oneonta (2-3, 6-3) fell five points short of Johnson City last week to suffer its third division loss, and needs a victory against Norwich to avoid falling further in the STAC Central Division standings. Meanwhile, Norwich dropped its second league game of the season last Tuesday to Seton Catholic Central. Both of Norwich’s losses have come at home, and not coincidentally, each of those clubs (Susquehanna Valley being the other conqueror) had superior size to Norwich.

Oneonta is not unlike Seton Catholic Central and Susquehanna Valley possessing a front line of three players 6-foot-2 or taller. “Oneonta is a very powerful club who will set multiple strong screens to free their players up and try to create openings for their big men inside,” said Norwich coach Tom Collier. “The biggest issue we face in this game will be rebounding as they attack the offensive glass with their power players.”
