New GED test aimed at adults
NORWICH – With the next generation GED exam expected in 2014, adult education around the country is changing. An innovative partnership of four local agencies is taking a fresh approach to ensure more adults become college and career ready.
The E3 - Education, Exploration and Employment Program is an enhanced GED preparation program that also provides students with the skills needed to succeed in college.
The E3 partners, Afton Adult Education, CDO Workforce, Morrisville State College and DCMO BOCES, have worked together to develop a program that will help local adults who have experienced barriers to higher education or who feel academically unprepared for college.
The 16-week, no cost, program begins with an orientation at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14. The course will mimic a college semester and will meet Saturday mornings on the Morrisville State College, Norwich Campus. Students will also be required to complete individual study during the week.
The curriculum will include GED test preparation, introductions to college math, reading and writing skills, as well as time management, and study skills. An employment and training counselor will also be assisting the students with individual education and career plans.
The E3 program is open to motivated adults, 21 years of age and older, who do not have a high school diploma.
For more information or to register for the orientation on Saturday, please call Heather Schaap at 334-2201 ext. 100.
