Barnaby Bright will shine at 6OTS Saturday night

OXFORD – This Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to present the very talented Barnaby Bright. They are Becky and Nathan Bliss, fresh, young songwriter-performers who bring a certain sultriness and sweetness to their classic folk/pop leanings and their playful chemistry shines on-stage. Becky’s classically trained gorgeous vocals and Nathan’s multi-instrumentals have garnered them tremendous accolades and awards. “Bright” indeed, but don’t just take our word.
Nathan and Rebecca Bliss, from Brooklyn, (by way of Kansas City, KS), both were professionally trained in music with college degrees. Between them, they can play over twenty instruments. Sparks were bound to happen when these talents were brought together by a booking agent, and it wasn’t very long before they were making beautiful harmonies together. The performing name they chose, Barnaby Bright, was taken from an old English rhyme for “the longest day and the shortest night”, (referring to the Summer Solstice). Apparently they knew that together they would burn brightly!
In 2007, their song, “If I Came Back as a Song” was voted 3rd place winner in the International Song Writing Competition by a notable panel of judges that included Tom Waits.
In 2009 they created their first studio album, “Wake the Hero.” With its beautiful acoustic guitar patterns, rich string arrangements, quirky instruments and subtle electronic tweaks, it quickly generated a buzz throughout the music scene.
The Deli Magazine wrote, “Rebecca’s smooth, melodic vocals are reminiscent of Karen Carpenter or Shelby Flint...and Nathan’s incorporation of his jazz background into Garfunkel-y acoustic compositions bring diverse styles together to the folk in the road: a marriage of minds and hands and music.”
Featured on television shows, Barnaby Bright’s music has been used on ER, Days of Our Lives, and the PBS series Roadtrip Nation. In 2010, they won the SongCircle Music/EMI songwriting contest which awarded them, among many wonderful gifts, $10,000. Just this past summer, they were featured as an “Emerging Artist” at the legendary Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY, and then they returned to Europe this past fall for a month-long tour.
Their first six-cut EP was released in May of 2011, and it included both of their award winning songs from “Wake The Hero” and two new songs - “Reverend’s Son and the first radio track “Gravity”. (We hear a new CD is on the way too.) Playing throughout top clubs and venues, this duo continues wowing packed audiences with thoughtful lyrics, intricate melodies and unexpected instrumentation.
Barnaby Bright’s meteoric rise to fame is happening rapidly. Be sure to catch this show in 6OTS’ intimate setting while you can! Tickets are $12 (plus a $2 service charge) until the date of the performance or $15 at the door. Ticket price for students, under age 18, are always $2; please call to make a student reservation! Doors open one-hour prior to show time. For further information, call 843-OTS6 (6876) or visit www.6onthesquare.org.
While at 6OTS -or before the show- be sure to view the paintings by Greene resident, Louis Mancuso, which will be on exhibit at 6OTS through March 6.
