Dan Wickham Classic

OTEGO – At Unatego High School Saturday evening, Unadilla Valley senior Dustin Badger recorded perhaps the best tournament victory of his career at the 14-team Dan Wickham Classic.

Facing Tim Fargo of Lowville in the 132-pound finals, Badger rallied from a 4-0 deficit to pick up a 7-5 overtime win. It was just Fargo’s second loss of the season, the other coming to Norwich’s Frank Garcia in the finals of the Leo J. Sammon Tournament in Ilion. “He just wrestled a really clean, solid match,” said UV coach Jim DuVall of Badger. “He kept moving and never stopped.”

Badger picked up a reversal that he turned into a near fall to erase the four-point deficit and lead by one. Fargo escaped before the third-period horn to extend the match to overtime. Fargo went for a throw near the edge of the mat, but Badger spun inside for the takedown and the victory. “Dustin was relentless in this win, and we’re hoping to build on this victory for the end of the year,” DuVall said.
