Carolann Solebello brings Americana Music to 6 On The Square
:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) welcomes award winning, multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter, Carolann Solebello to their stage. You may know Carolann from the popular folk trio, Red Molly, however, she began her musical journey as a solo performer, and now she has come back to her musical roots and is earning acclaim everywhere.
Carolann Solebello is most familiar to folk audiences as a founding member, and for her alto harmonies, in the female trio, Red Molly. She returned to solo performance in August 2010 after six years of steady national touring with the band. Her third solo CD, Threshold, the first since parting from Red Molly, was released in June 2011. She also has two previous solo albums to her credit, Just Across the Water (2000) and Glass of Desire (2009).
A New York City native, Carolann first fell in love with mountain music, and the bluegrass and country that grew out of that tradition, while working as an actor in East Tennessee and Kansas. The tunes and techniques she learned, from musicians in both places, fundamentally changed her approach to songwriting and guitar playing, and subsequently colored her work with Red Molly.
While with Red Molly, Solebello credits arranging and performing many great covers of classic American songs, with learning a lot about lyrics, melody and structure. This sharpened her skills as a songwriter which has helped her solo career. This past June, the talented Carolann was named the winner of the 2011 Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival (SMAF) Songwriter Contest.
With crisp, lush vocals, Carolann Solebello continues to earn accolades performing her “New York-inflected” brand of original and traditional Americana as a solo artist. Come hear the sounds of mountain music coming through loud and clear. Tickets are $12 (plus $2 service charge) until the date of the performance, and $15 at the door. Ticket price for students, under age 18, are always $2; please call to make a student reservation. Doors open one-hour prior to show time. For further information, call 843-OTS6 (6876) or visit www.6onthesquare.org.
