Oxford library plans 'American Girl' tea
OXFORD – The Oxford Memorial Library will host a variety of activities in February designed to promote family participation and to draw members of the community of all ages to learn about the library.
The first event will be the American Girl Tea, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday in the library’s community room. The activities will revolve around the various time periods of the American Girl doll series, which has been making 18-inch dolls since 1986, each representing a variety of ethnicities and time periods in United States history.
Library Director Nancy Wilcox explained the event is open to girls, along with their mothers and grandmothers, who would like to show off their collections or single dolls to other enthusiasts from the area.
“This will be a very special time for moms and daughters to share together,” she said.
The American Girl Tea will also serve refreshments and provide games and crafts from each of the eras belonging to the extensive doll collection.
The library will also be hosting a craft day in preparation for Valentine’s Day at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7. Children and adults of all ages are invited to attend to create crafts for family, friends or that special someone in a variety of mediums provided by the library, said Wilcox, who described the event as “lots of fun and creativity.”
The library is also still holding its Toddler/Preschool Story time at 10 a.m. every Wednesday morning where children can enjoy “stories, finger plays, action rhymes and simple crafts.”
“This is a great opportunity for mom to get out of the house and for the little one to learn some social skills and make new friends, as well as learn the joy of books,” said Wilcox.
Finally, Wilcox explained that February is the perfect time to return overdue library books. Each book returned with a non-perishable food item will have the fine waived.
