NORWICH – For the second straight time, Norwich’s victory hopes were pinned on a win in the final event.

Unlike last Friday against Windsor when they picked up the victory in the 400-meter free relay, the Tornado were upended by Section III Holland Patent, and fell two points shy of a tenth win this season.

“It was a great meet all the way down through,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “You can go back over the lineup and say you wish you changed this or that, but you just have to set it up at the beginning, and let it run.”

Despite winning just five out of 12 events, Norwich pulled even after the 100-yard breaststroke at 83-83 with Nick Mooney leading a one-two finish. One event earlier, the Tornado’s Killian Benedict kept his team alive capturing the 100-yard backstroke.

“I really can’t be disappointed, we had 11 personal-best swims tonight,” Diefenbacher said. “They just had faster guys left at the end.”

Greg Todd (200-yard freestyle) and Dakota Armondi (diving) added victories for Norwich (9-4) who remain idle until the Section IV Class B meet Feb. 18 at Owego.
