Bainbridge-Guilford 67, Unadilla Valley 54
BAINBRIDGE – Surging Bainbridge-Guilford won for the seventh time in eight games Wednesday evening, and is just one game out of the MAC playoff mix with one week of games to play.
Ryan Porter had his first 20-20 game scoring 25 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Porter figured heavily in the Bobcats’ big third quarter when they outscored UV 24-7. “(Porter) was just a beast in the third quarter, and his rebounding was impressive,” said B-G coach Greg Warren.
The Bobcats’ defense also held UV’s leading scorer Justin Hofer in check. Hofer, Chenango County’s top scorer at just over 20 per game, had 12 last night, and many of those points came in the final quarter. “We did a good job of keeping Hofer from penetrating, and we didn’t give him a lot of clean looks at the basket,” Warren said.
B-G junior Austin Bauerle added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Brooks Harmon scored 13, and Corbin Palmer just missed a triple-double scoring 10 points, grabbing 10 boards, and dishing out eight assists.
Brett Smith led UV with 16 points.
“We’re doing what we can to stay in the hunt, and I’m proud of the way the kids are playing,” Warren said.

Sidney 45, Oxford 44
SIDNEY – Sidney held off Oxford’s fourth-quarter rally as neither team scored over the final two minutes and 20 seconds Wednesday evening.
The Blackhawks had two shots under its own basket for the lead with less than 10 seconds left that were off the mark. “We had some opportunities at the end, but I don’t think we ever had the lead at any point in the game,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis.
Oxford trailed by 12 entering the last quarter, and Justin Schray’s eight points in the final quarter spurred the comeback. Sidney’s last point, Joe Matzel’s free throw with 4:33 left in the fourth, was the final margin of victory.
“They shot the ball well in the first half, and coming off the loss to Bainbridge-Guilford, I think they were a little more focused and intense at the start of the game,” Davis said of Sidney. “We made some bad decisions early on in the game, and didn’t rebound it that well.”
Bill Kozak hit one three-pointer in each of the first three quarters to help Sidney to a 42-30 lead after three quarters. Kozak finished with 13 points.
Schray and Andrew Golden scored 14 apiece for Oxford.

GREENE – Greene’s defense shut down Delhi for three quarters Wednesday, and the Trojans’ seventh Midstate Athletic Conference victory moved them into a three-way tie along with Sidney and Oxford for second place.
“The Unadilla Valley game did a lot for us,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “We went man-to-man in that game, and it turned the game around. We went man-to-man from the start of this game, and we reached our goal the first three periods of holding them to single digits scoring. The defense really opened up our fast break, and we were able to push the ball up the court.”
Jeff Carlin led the fast-breaking Trojans with 18 points, and Sam Adams added 10. Junior guard Dan Treadwell handed out six assists. The Trojans wind up their schedule playing at Oxford Friday, then meeting Sidney next week.

UV’s Amanda Off was fouled on the Storm’s next trip down the floor, and she hit the first of two free throws to draw her team within one. Off was also good with her second free throw, but it was waved off due to a lane violation.
Following a missed free throw by B-G, UV’s Jordan Anderson had one more shot for the Storm, but she was forced into a difficult attempt that fell into the arms of Conway. Conway made the final two free throws to ice the win.
It was B-G’s second win over UV this season. In each team’s season-opener, the Bobcats went on a 20-point run in the third quarter en route to an 18-point victory. This time, the game’s outcome was not determined until the final seconds. “UV is a lot better than the first time we played them,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “We just persevered, and we got to the foul line a lot more than we have been.
