Section IV, Class B
WAVERLY – Norwich won four individual titles, and placed a close fourth in the Section IV Class B tournament at Waverly Saturday.
Tristan Rifanburg (126), Tanner Cummings (152), Cody Bradbury (182), and Kegan Levesque (195) were true to their top seeds winning crowns. Frank Garcia (132) and Anthony Vitiello (160) each placed second.
“We have a lot of goals, and hopefully we can come out with at least a couple of champs next week,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey.
Rifanburg beat Waverly’s Austyn Bostwick in the finals, 8-4, Cummings, out of action the past three weeks, blanked Brandon Ellers of Waverly, 8-0; Bradbury cruised to a 6-1 win over Windsor’s Luke Zakrajsek; and Levesque pinned his way to a title flattening B-GA’s Mark Viviano in 54 seconds.
“Tanner wrestled extremely well, and pretty much walked through his weight class,” Downey said. “Tristan wrestled great on his feet and on top; Cody has been out for a month, and he didn’t look like he missed a beat, and Kegan looked incredible. I’ve never seen him wrestle the way he did.”
Garcia closed the gap on Windsor’s Jessy Williams losing 1-0. Garcia dropped a 5-0 final in the STAC tourney a week ago. Vitiello, a senior, moves on to the sectional tournament where he will likely earn the number three seed.
B-G/Afton had one titleist in Austin Carr (99), who beat Owego’s Ryan Kwiatkowski, 7-0, in the finals. The Bobcats had nine other top-four finishers qualify for sectionals.
