16th annual Relay For Life sets a goal of $155,000 for 2012

NORWICH – Relay For Life of Chenango County will kick-off its 16th annual campaign against cancer from 5:30 to 7 tonight in the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus community room, 20 Conkey Ave.

According to event chair Marie DeSarro, the open house and informational meeting will showcase the many different aspects of Relay, including how to start up and register a team, how to purchase and sell luminaries and some tips on running a successful fundraising campaign.

“Once again this year, we’ve already heard from some of our major fundraising teams that, unfortunately, will not be returning,” said DeSarro. “A team doesn’t have to be huge – it can be a group of friends or family, a set of co-workers or a church group.”

The Relay committee will also be reaching out to a number of local businesses and organizations, added DeSarro, to gauge their interest in forming a team. In recent years, the committee has seen an increase in online fundraising teams, as well.
